How Can I Recognize My Inner Child?

The first principle of Alchemical Hypnotherapy is the rescue and care of the inner child. But how can we tell if the inner child needs attention. For most of us, we have been conditioned for years to ignore the inner child and his or her needs. Others are secretly disgusted and embarrassed to discover the inner child even exists. And some are so possessed by their inner child that they don’t have an inner adult to speak of.

Many have spent a great deal of energy, time, and money, going through therapy to rescue their child self. Then they get home and can’t maintain the new relationship with their inner child. The demands of work, family, and all the rest of it drown out the child’s voice once again. This is a double betrayal.

So, how do you know that inner child needs your attention? Try these tips:

  • Is some part of your body getting very tense? The inner child often communicates through a tight throat, a stomachache, or some other very physical sensation. If you are in a situation that is uncomfortable for you and you begin to feel one of these symptoms, go within and see if it the child that is triggered and needs help from you.
  • Are you suddenly chattering about nothing, feeling very hyper, or, alternately getting unusually quiet or tongue-tied? Not being able to communicate in your usual adult way is a sign of the inner child reaching out for help. Check with-in and see.
  • Are you about to have a tantrum or other strong unusual emotional reaction such as a panic attack? If you are beginning to act “childish” it is a good bet that your inner child is SCREAMING for attention. Slow down and do whatever it takes to take care of your child before you get into adult trouble. The rest of the world doesn’t see the child within you—they just judge you on your behavior.

Your inner child no longer has a body—he or she lives on only in your inner world. So it is very important to understand the language the child uses to get your attention when you fall into neglectful habits.

If You Want Romance on Valentine’s Day—Get to Know Your Inner Mate!

Most people don’t think about inner guides when they think of romance, but they should. It is impossible to be completely open and loving to another person if we are not in alignment with our true inner selves. When it comes to romance, the most important guide is the inner mate. So—what is an “inner mate” and what can it do for you?

  • An inner mate is the part of ourselves that represents the opposite sex from what we are biologically. Carl Jung used the term “anima” to represent a man’s inner female, and “animus” to represent a woman’s inner male. Because each of us is born whole on a soul level, we have to have both sexes with-in our psyche. At birth an infant has no sense of gender. But as children grow they are socialized into the gender roles corresponding to their physical sex. This fact, combined with actual physical and hormonal differences make it very hard to get into the minds and hearts of the ‘other’.
  • The inner mate bridges this internal communication gap. So your inner mate can help you to understand your “outer mate” or your crush. If you wonder what your partner is thinking, or why they reacted in way that confused you, you can go within and ask your inner mate. The inner mate can answer these questions because they have the qualities of the opposite sex. If you listen, you can learn enough to become a really good communicator in romantic situations.
  • The inner mate can help you pick a better partner. Let the inner mate have a say about the potential lovers in your life. If you go within after a first date, you may be surprised how good your inner mate is at weeding out the ones that just aren’t a good match.
  • When you find yourself alone, your inner mate can take up the slack. If you are a woman, your inner man can give you the strength to take care of certain practical things that are considered the “man’s job.” If you are a man, your inner woman can help you get in touch with your feelings and add richness and depth to your life.
  • Whether you are single, dating, or married, the inner mate can take the pressure off of our “real” world relationships. So much of the time we have huge expectations of our partners. We want them to be everything to us and to mold themselves to fit our expectations. This can be too much weight to put on any relationship. If you are in close touch with your inner mate, you can lay off your outer mate. They will thank you for it.

It is clear that if you want to succeed at the art of love, a strong connection with your inner mate is a key element. If you have already done the inner work and know your inner mate—why not take the time to connect with her/him today? But, if you haven’t done the work yet it is time to make an appointment with your Alchemical Hypnotherapist and go on a journey within to where your inner mate is waiting. We wish you much love on Valentine’s Day!

Into the Conference Room—Exploring the Inner Troublemakers

Today’s post is part of a series on the sub-personalities we encounter during the conference room process, and in our everyday lives. In this post we will focus on some of the more difficult members of our “inner family”.

  • The Judge.  The judge is difficult because it is the usual source of the mean inner voice. A bad judge is a harsh critic that never shuts up. He or she will tell say you are not good enough, or, even worse, just no good at all. If you have a dream, or even an idea, the judge will tear it down. If you long for adventure, the judge will tell you to be realistic and accept that you aren’t going anywhere. And yet, we need the judge to, well, make judgments. The world really does have its dangers. Without the judge to keep our feet on the ground we really could fall flat on our face. The trick is to decontaminate an inner judge tainted by the critical internalized voices of our parents and others so that we can benefit by the judges wisdom and get help making good decisions and gaining the self-discipline needed to take the big risks and live our dreams.
  • The Rebel. The rebel may be the closest thing the judge has to a polar opposite. Want to run off with the bass player? The rebel will egg you on. Drop out of school? Why were you even IN school to begin with? Eat the whole pie? No problem! Stay out all night before that job interview? Who needs a boring job anyhow? With the rebel in charge you can’t be counted on for anything. And that would be bad enough for your relationships, your job security, or your reputation. But the rebel can go much further than that. An over-active, un-evolved inner rebel can actually kill you. Remember the movie- Rebel without a Cause? A bad inner rebel INVENTED the game of chicken those boys were playing. But, like the judge, a healed rebel can be a wonderful asset to your life. A healed rebel can give you the courage to take a chance. He or she can also bring the excitement and adventure to make life fun again. Your inner rebel needs a cause, and that cause is YOU, feeling fully alive.

The conference room is where the alchemical hypnotherapist works out the tainted messages coming from theses difficult characters and places them back in the service of the client in their present life. Some clients have only one of these difficult inner characters acting badly. But many have both a tainted judge and an over-active destructive rebel, whispering (or screaming) opposing messages in the poor clients ear. When this is the case, the conference room process can be a long and complex one. The process of drawing out the negative and destructive messages, reframing them, and then getting authentic buy-in from both sub-personalities and the client’s dominant personality may take several hours. But the effort is certainly worth it. There is no more effective way to resolve the terrible dilemma created by the inner war between judge and rebel.

Feeling Confused About Your New Year’s Goals? Try an Alchemical Conference Room!

Sub-personality Masquerade

One of the best tools for clarity in the Alchemical tool chest is the Conference Room. But what exactly IS a Conference Room process, and how does it work?

It all starts with the sub-personalities. Though each of us appears to be one united ego, at least on the outside, if we look into the subconscious this is clearly not true. Every one of us has a multitude of inner voices that express themselves to us regularly, and often change our behavior. If you want to test this theory just imagine you are out to lunch and are confronted by a large menu, including healthy salads, delicious wine and comforting mac and cheese. Imagine the thoughts that go through your mind as you decide what to have. The inner health seeker will be saying that you “should” have the salad. The inner child may scream for the comfort foods, and if you have an inner addict it may steer you towards the wine even at breakfast. In this situation it is easy enough to sort out, but what if it weren’t a meal but an important life choice?

That is what Conference Room is used for. The sub-personalities never really shut up. They are part of us. So, if you can’t decide whether to go back to school or take a job on the other side of the country, or you don’t know whether to leave your spouse or stay—chances are a whole chorus of inner voices are driving your confusion.

A trained Alchemical Hypnotherapist will take you into a light trance, where you will sit at a conference table and ask all your sub-personalities to join you. In the session you will learn what your best self really wants, and then all the other parts will be brought into the fold. It is very likely that the reason for the confusion is an inner war between the sub-personalities. As soon as you can make a clean decision that truly serves you AND you bring all parts of yourself into agreement, the confusion will end. Then the journey towards success will begin.

If this sounds like a valuable technique for you or a loved one, just make an appointment with a certified Alchemical Hypnotherapist and ask for a Conference Room session today!

It’s the Holidays—Is Your Inner Child Feeling Loved?

For most of us, the holidays are a magical and fun time of year. It is a time of giving, and a time for families to gather and share loving moments and memories. But for some of us, the holiday has a darker side. Maybe something really painful happened in your family during the holiday season at some point in the past, and you never quite got past it. Maybe you had no real family. Or perhaps you were “just” neglected.

If your childhood was more full of thorns than roses it is likely that you have gotten wonderful healing from your journey into Alchemical Hypnotherapy. You may have a great relationship with your inner child, and your child may now feel safe—most of the time. But the holidays can be hard to navigate. The pressure to enjoy family harmony can be overwhelming to those of us with old wounds. Here are a few tips to navigate the season, and maybe even have a good time with your inner child.

  • Ask what would make your precious child happiest and make sure that the request is honored.
  • Make sure you connect with others as much as you can. If you have no family then reach out to friends. This is supposed to be the season of connection, and if you feel like you are on the sidelines your child will too. No one wants to feel left out.
  • If you are alone on the day of the Christmas try this: Get into a comfortable place, either sitting or lying down. Relax yourself, and, calling in ALL your inner guides and helpers, especially your inner parents, count down five counts. Find yourself in  a safe and happy place. Let your inner parents, (or your adult self if that IS your inner parent) hold your child self and comfort them. Let your child interact any way they need to. Make sure your inner parents give the child a present before counting back up.
  • If you still need to be with people, do whatever it takes to find someone to spend Christmas Eve and day with. Try joining a MeetUp that is having an “orphans” Christmas get together. MeetUp is an international online site to bring people together based on location and interest. If all else fails, go to one of the great big all24 hour meeting that AA puts on. Don’t worry if you are not a member. They are great people and you won’t be lonely.
  • Get something special for yourself—something your child loves too. You know what it is, so go get it.

Here are links to MeetUp.com and AA, in case you FEEL like a Christmas orphan. Remember you are not alone.

If You Need Hypnotherapy Try an Alchemist First!

Finding the right therapist can be difficult no matter what modality you are considering. But did you know there are several kinds of hypnotherapists? Deciding on the right kind may depend a lot on what your issues are.  One of the main distinctions is between “directive” and “non-directive” hypnotherapy.

A directive approach puts the therapist in the position of authority. The idea is for them to actually reprogram you away from the behavior you are trying to change. Using this approach, which is also called “authoritative”, you will be placed in a fairly deep trance state. You will not interact much, but the therapist will be the active one, instructing your subconscious mind to change the behavior. It is like something is being done to you, not with you. For simple behavior changes, such as quitting smoking or losing weight, this method may be all you need.

Alchemical Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, uses a non-directive approach. The trance state is much lighter than the authoritative method, allowing and actually requiring interaction between the therapist and the client to heal all kinds of deep-seated issues gently and permanently. In this collaboration between the therapist and the client the source of the original trauma is revisited in a safe environment, and the trauma is actually healed from the inside out.

You may ask what issues are better treated by the Alchemical approach. Here is a short list:

  •  Childhood trauma, including sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional and verbal abuse, neglect, and abandonment. These terrible wounds may be running your life today, years or even decades after the actual incidents have stopped. Even those of us with no huge abuse issues were still wounded in some way. To a child things that wouldn’t bother us now can hurt tender little feelings. The wounded inner child is still living in a sort of hell, and Alchemical Hypnotherapy is the fastest and best way to rescue that wounded child so that your adult self can move forward towards a happy life in the present.
  • Physical injury. Sometimes when we are injured, strange intractable symptoms remain for a long time after the doctor says we are healed. Through a process called Somatic Healing a qualified Alchemical Hypnotherapist will guide you through the original injury, removing the emotional elements that are continuing to cause pain. This process works whether the injury came from a terrible accident, a little accident, or even if you don’t know how you got hurt to begin with. Somatic Healing can also work with non-traumatic pain, such as stomach aches, migraines, and body imbalances.
  • Relationship issues. Sometimes, even if we have done a lot of inner work and healing, love still eludes us. Whether you are single and don’t want to be or in a relationship that is in trouble, working with an Alchemical Hypnotherapist can turn things around. The therapist will work with your “inner mate” to assist you in healing relationship issues. The inner mate is the part within you that carries the energy and wisdom of the opposite sex. If you can’t get along with the mate within, it is hard to relate to a potential lover.
  • Indecision about important life changes. If you don’t know whether to stay or go, to become a lawyer or an artist, to go back to school or chuck it all for life on an island, an Alchemical Hypnotherapist can help you decide. The therapist will use a technique called “Conference Room”. It works like this: We all have many “sub-personalities” within our main personality. If you want to test this, just observe yourself ordering at a new restaurant with a big menu. You will hear your inner skinny person ask for the salad, while the hedonist demands the pasta with four cheeses and cake for dessert. Then the judge pipes up agreeing with the skinny one. These sub-personalities are always there and have many conflicting opinions. In Conference Room the therapist will put you into a light trance, and take you to a conference table where all parts of you that have an opinion on the issue at hand can sit and hash it out. The session is done when there is a healthy agreement between all your inner voices as to what you should do.

These are just a few of the deep issues that a trained Alchemical Hypnotherapist can address. It is more effective than talk therapy because many of our worst psychological problems are on the subconscious level where words can’t reach. And as for those “simple” problems that are OK for the authoritative style of hypnotherapy? An Alchemist can work on those as well, but at a much deeper level. So even if you “just want to quit smoking” why not get to the bottom of it with an Alchemist? Your results will last because you were working in partnership with your therapist and not merely being reprogrammed.

My Empowerment Intensive Experiences with Brigitta and George D’Amato

By David Quigley

The hypnosis blog at the Alchemy Institute is a place for all of us alchemists to share personal stories of transformation with our communities. I will begin by sharing my own transformative journeys with two of the most powerful facilitators alive today in the Alchemical tradition, George and Brigitta D’Amato. The Empowerment Intensives I have done with them have changed my life in ways so profound that they stand out as watershed moments in my life…there was David before that Empowerment, and then there was a whole new David after the Empowerment, although sometimes it took months before the new me would fully emerge.

My first Empowerment was for me about addressing some unresolved issues about my sexuality. I returned to a past life as a flagrant seducer of women in a past life, cried buckets of tears of remorse, and found self forgiveness and an opportunity for atonement through Brigitta’s skilled intervention. Like a world class surgeon she knew exactly what words and what psychodrama processes were needed to take me through an amazingly complex process in which I faced the women whom I had abused, the evil king whom I served, the nobleman who was my father and who trained me as a seducer, and the adoring mistress whom I neglected. The most powerful result of this journey was a deep connection with a new inner guide, Elizabeth. She has over the last 9 years, given me so much love and romantic happiness, that it has slowly healed all of my deep sexual loneliness and pain, and thus stopped me from leaking sexual energy in my classes. I thank Brigitta and George every day for this miracle. To learn more about Elizabeth’s relationship wisdom, read my relationship healing articles on my website, they are her creation.

Northern California Scenic Mountain View
My next Empowerment arrived when my son hit the teenage years and started behaving like a typically crazy teenager. His antics landed him in trouble. But instead of grounding him, I suggested an Empowerment Intensive instead. The experience for both of us was profound. I was able to process some deep hurts and guilt about my past with my son, and to receive his forgiveness. Our journey also included initiating him into manhood at a ceremony on a mountain top with a big bonfire. The powerful effects this had on our relationship can be represented by one sentence: my son grew up that weekend and began to treat me and himself with the respect and trust we deserved. No longer his Father and the object of his adolescent rage, I became his respected friend and counselor in helping him create a new life for himself.

My most recent Empowerment with the D’Amatos, just a few weeks ago, was another transformation of my relationship with my sexuality. I feel more safe and content with my sexual feelings than ever before, although I suspect the real depth of this transformation will not be seen for many months, if this Intensive proves to be like the rest. What amazed me the most was that the night before I was to do my process, my guide Elizabeth came to Brigitta in a vision. She described in detail what the process needed to be, and every step it would take to get there. The next day as my process rapidly unfolded, I kept wondering “How could Brigitta know all of these details? How could she know what to say?” Only later did she share with us that she had been prepped the night before for this amazing journey. One thing in particular I will never forget. During my journey I brought up a particularly ugly past life memory. I was puzzled when Brigitta instructed me “You will be clearing this memory with your guide on your own next week.” Then she moved on to other issues. The amazing part was that I later found out the material was too sensitive to share in front of the group so it needed to be done privately. Secondly, I was able to heal it on my own in a powerful hours long journey that my guides led me through just the day after the Empowerment was over and as Brigitta predicted, it was an important part of my journey.

If you are ready for miracles of transformation in your life, you can’t go wrong with an Empowerment Intensive. And in the field of Empowerment Intensive therapy, George and Brigitta D’Amato, are masters. You can contact them at personalpower@prodigy.net or visit their website at http://www.empowerments.net

Miraculous Stories of Healing with Hypnosis

Healing Cancer With Hypnosis: A Rock Named Rose

By Susan Justice

On the evening before my thirty-seventh birthday, I found myself in a great deal of pain which led me to the emergency room of Marin General Hospital. When a tumor of unknown origin was found to be the cause of the pain, everything in my life began to change. The prognosis was not good. I was told that the tumor had to be removed. That it had spread throughout my pelvis and into my leg and was growing rapidly. Unfortunately the only way they could remove it was to perform a hemipelvectomy, the removal of my leg and hip. The doctor said I had about six months to live otherwise. Well, that was a lot to accept. And I couldn’t accept it. I had a four year old son I was young but suddenly my life was nearly over. I felt that I probably wouldn’t live through that surgery and if I did that I would die of depression anyway. There had to be another way!

I was alone in my hospital room in the evening after being told that a tumor was growing in my body. My heart was open and I was feeling the beauty of the little lights twinkling on the hillside outside my window and appreciating the flowers that filled my room, and I knew that I was not alone. I knew then that I wanted to live and to heal my life. To heal all the pain that had brought me to this point. In the stillness of that moment, an inner voice told me that I was going to be okay, that I had important work to do…and to let it begin now. This message became the foundation for my faith.

After weeks of test and surgeries, I said no to the hemipelvectomy and without even realizing what I was doing, I went straight toward Spirit for my healing. I became a spiritual warrior on a quest to heal my life. I felt that the pain I carried in my heart had created this illness. I knew that I had to learn to love myself in a much greater way and to forgive myself and all others. I had a lot of spiritual support around me and my faith was strong. I asked that I be guided to the highest healing places for me and that I be allowed to live and to heal my life, so that I might be a living example of God’s great healing energy. And I was guided. I worked with some remarkable healers that helped me to gain a better understanding about illness and healing and about myself.

It was during this time I was guided to Alchemical Hypnotherapy. With its gentle and powerful processes I was able to get to the heart of the matter quickly, which is what I needed. It helped me clear away the misperceptions that I carried about myself and others that caused me pain and suffering. It was a pathway that showed me how to love myself as I recovered and discovered lost parts of my Self, including the deepest and most divine places within me. Because I was in great need of healing, I was willing to do whatever it took to find a way to heal.

My biggest single breakthrough happened on a beautiful autumn day. I remember how the colors and the fresh air and the beauty touched my awareness. Every breath I took was filled with gratitude, just for being alive and somehow knowing I was being guided. That day I was gently guided on an Alchemical journey inside my body to meet the tumor that was growing there. I was surprised to find a smooth shiny black rock there. This moved me to tears because my image of the tumor until then was of a rock with very rough and pointed edges. I had actually found a rock that fit my thoughts and image of the tumor, it was heavy and jagged and filled with crystals and I ceremoniously smashed that rock to smithereens with a sledgehammer, demanding the tumor to leave my body. I was serious about it.

When I met this smooth shiny black rock something very different was evoked within me. I knew I was making progress, this was a much different and better image. My therapist guided me to speak with this rock that represented the tumor. To ask whatever questions I wanted to ask. The first question I asked was “Why did you come here?” The reply was, “I was asked to come here.” By whom? “By little Susie. Listen, she is here.” The little girl I met that day was frightened, lonely and indeed, abandoned. She was terribly frightened in so many ways; There was fear of abuse and abandonment, fear of others’ anger, and fear that she really didn’t deserve to be loved. I was so deeply moved by this child part of myself. How long she had been neglected. As I talked with her and tried to win her trust, I asked her how I could help. She said she wanted to be free…free to be herself and express love and joy as much as she could. But there had been so much fear and pain that she didn’t know whether she could stand to live any longer. I found a strength and power within me that made a bold rescue of the little girl, and I made a vow to give her all the love, freedom, attention and healing that she needed. She was no longer abandoned and alone. I had recovered a part of myself that was essential to my healing.

Together we returned to speak with the tumor and I asked the shiny black rock what is your name?” the reply was: “Rose.” This made me cry because that was the name I had chosen to give to the baby girl I was trying to conceive when the tumor was discovered. I asked, “Why did you come to me in this way?” The response changed my awareness forever. “I came to help you. You were needing to make important changes in your life that you were afraid to make on your own. I heard your call for help.” The tumor had come to help me! I cried as I came to realize and accept that this illness was here to teach me and to help me.

I made friends with the tumor that day and I made a connection with my inner child. These experiences changed the course of my life. From that moment on I wholeheartedly listened to the wisdom of the illness and I embraced my inner child. By loving her I have learned to love all of my Self, deeply, gently, with compassion and kindness and to release the past and to forgive. I had found at last the inner strength and spiritual resources needed to make the necessary changes. Answers came from within me and I learned to trust myself and believe in myself. I made many changes in my life over those years. Two and a half years later the tumor was completely gone. It has now been twelve years since that night in the emergency room my cancer remains in “remission”. More importantly, to this day little Susie is an integral part of my life and her new happiness fills my life with joy.
